Meet Abby

I really got in to birth work because I never stopped being fascinated by all that a pregnant body can do. It’s amazing! The realm of birth is ever-present in our world, and yet often unrecognized by culture at large.

Years after my initial interest - with a doula certification under my belt and two of my own babies born - I’m still a birth nerd. Still amazed and humbled by all that women’s and babies’ bodies can do.

I enjoy the challenge of a family hiking trip. I stay at home with my two toddlers. I try my hand at gardening and ceramics but have a lot to learn about both. Our family loves all things Columbia: from the trail systems and farmers markets, to the colleges and downtown streets. I truly believe better births build a better community and I’m excited to be a part of it.

Since my first birth attendance in 2023, I have been witness to a dozen births and postpartum seasons. I take on an intentionally small load to build close connections with my clients and to balance my family’s needs. With settings ranging from home, transfers, hospital, and both planned and unplanned cesarean, I’ve walked with families through many different experiences. In my approach, the little things are the big things. A sip of water, an encouraging word, an eye to see, a hand to take out the trash without asking. I have been there myself, and I know that when the mother is honored, seen, and centered, the whole family does better.

More about me

  • I earned my certification as a full-spectrum doula from Jamaa Birth Village in 2020. The St. Louis doula program emphasizes community-based and culturally-congruent care. I received training to support the pregnant, birthing, and postpartum periods. Learn more about the organization here.

I am currently pursuing recertification through Nona Birth Education. They emphasize mindfulness, and the nervous system’s role in physiologic birth.
